The Barber County 4-H Meats Judging Team competed at the Kansas 4-H Livestock Sweepstakes, August 21, 2022, in Manhattan, KS.
The Intermediate Team comprised of Boyd Banks, Callen Corr, and Keagan McMurray finished 5th place overall. They also placed (as a team) 4th in Retail ID, 9th in Placings, and 9th in Questions. Individually, Banks was 9th in Placings and 17th overall. Corr placed 10th in Retail ID and 13th overall. McMurray was 8th in Retail ID and 10th place overall.
Also making the trip was Callan Smith. Smith, who had been a stand-out in the Intermediate Division for several years, moved up and competed Individually in the Senior Division this year. He placed 8th in Retail ID, 9th in Reasons and finished 9th place overall. Smith’s strong finish earned him an invitation to try out for the Kansas 4-H All Star Team, which will represent the state of Kansas at the National Contest.
The Barber County 4-H Meats Judging Team is coached by Dr. Tom Carr, and they are sponsored by the Barber County Cattlemen’s Association.
The Kansas 4-H Livestock Sweepstakes is held annually on the campus of Kansas State University in Manhattan. Approximately 150 Kansas 4-H members competed in the Meats Judging Contest.
